There is no such thing as a "stupid" question. If yours isn't answered below, please contact me at cindy@topstotreasures.com
When you bring me a top to be quilted it needs to be clean, and pressed (as opposed to wadded up in a ball), with loose threads cut.
DO NOT baste your quilt ahead of time. Please keep the layers of your quilt (top, batting, and backing) seperate. I like to make my own sandwiches.
The backing needs to be 4 to 6 inches wider and longer than your top. For example, if your quilt top measures 70" x 90" then your back should be between 74" x 94" and 76" x 96". Please make sure that your sides are squared up before you bring it to me.
I generally operate according to the principle of first come first served; however, where there is a special need I do my best to make accomodations.
My turn around time, or the amount of time it takes for me take your quilt top and finish the work I promised to do, is usually a month or less.
I work out of my home....which is filled with kids and critters. My hours are by appointment only and typically between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. However, I am happy to meet with you whenever we are both available.
Borders are an area which surrounds the focal point of a quilt much like a frame does a picture.
Edge to edge or overall quilting is just that. A quilt quilted in this manner will have only one quilted design. It has no seperate quilted border pattern even though it might have a pieced border.
A piecer is one who pieces quilt tops together; usally a lover of fabric and design; easily spotted by bits of thread on their clothes; often surrounded by friends and family who frequently ask, "Is this one for me?" A piecer may have a notebook in their glove compartment containing a list of quilt shops visited, patterns purchased, and current projects.
To find the number of square inches in your quilt top multiply the length in inches by the width in inches.
Use this number to estimate the cost for labor for your quilt.
Of course. Like anyone, I have my preferences, but as long as your batting is clean and big enough for the project I am glad to use it for you.
Yes it can - just make sure that you square up the edges before you bring it to me.
No, I do not.
You need to provide this to me when you bring me your quilt top.
The backing needs to be 4 to 6 inches wider and longer than your top. For example, if your quilt top measures 70" x 90" then your back should be between 74" x 94" and 76" x 96". Please make sure that your sides are squared up before you bring it to me.
I believe that quality quilting should be available to everyone at a reasonable price. However, I can not give my time away...so I do my best to keep a lid on the pricing.
That said - I do offer first time customers a 10% discount on labor. I figure it is the least I can offer to someone who doesn't know me from Adam and has entrusted me with their special project.
I am a home bound business. I have a family of 5 and we each have a favorite pet. We have cats and dogs. I do my best to keep the critters away from my customers treasures; however, if you are highly allergic to either of these and think it might pose a problem, I would be glad to give you a reference to another quilter.
